What's Edmodo?

If you haven't heard of Edmodo, here's what Fast Company had to say about Edmodo and its new apps marketplace:

Edmodo started out as the Facebook (or Yammer) for classrooms--a social network-style place for teachers to coordinate online with their students (and sometimes parents). Today the company becomes even more like Facebook as it opens up its API so that outside companies can build apps that sit on top of the Edmodo platform.

CEO and cofounder Nic Borg tells Fast Company the change will make things easier for teachers, helping them save time by allowing them to plug the digital tools they often are already using directly into their Edmodo classrooms. But it also presages a larger digital shift in schools--one in which every classroom may very well one day have an online hub that will sit at the center of their on- and off-line worlds.

Spy 5 + Edmodo

Incorporating the world of Spy 5 and Edmodo was a lot of fun! By including a Spy 5 Mission directly in Edmodo, teachers and students will have full access to a complete, subject specific, interactive comic book, one that's fully integrated into the Edmodo platform and includes a printable teachers guide with resources and suggested in-class activities.

The First Mission - Constellation Caper

Phobos and Deimos, the twin I.C.E. agents have used their extraterrestrial powers to create a device that causes stars to move in unusual ways. C.I.E. Agents head to the Griffith Observatory to take a closer look through the telescope.

Agent Firefly heads to Warsaw, Poland in the year 1514 to visit the Guardian Nicolaus Copernicus, the Father of Modern Astronomy and creator of the heliocentric model of the solar system that put the sun at the center of the universe. With the help of Copernicus, can  the C.I.E. Agents stop Phobos and Deimos?

Learning Objectives

The first mission promotes the following learning objectives:

1. Recognize that the Earth is one of several planets orbiting the sun.

2. Learn that there are eight planets in our solar system, varying in size, structure, appearance, and distance from the sun.

3. Recognize famous constellations in the night sky, and know the myths behind them.

4. Understand how Nicolaus Copernicus, the Polish astronomer, proved that the sun is the center of our solar system.

Crunch Some Numbers

In addition to the individual mission, we've also released a targeted Number Cruncher math app where students can test their math skills.

By selecting the right operators, students improve their calculation skills while disabling a villainous device before time runs out.
